What to know about easements
Some properties include an easement granted to the Willamette Water Supply System (WWSS). Protecting the pipeline and support equipment within the easement is essential to delivering water to our region.
By granting the easement or purchasing a property with the easement already established, property owners agree to maintain the easement area and help us protect this critical drinking water infrastructure.
Easement guidelines
- If you intend to make changes to the easement area, notify Tualatin Valley Water District at (503) 848-3000, which manages the WWSS.
- Keep the easement area clear, without obstructions at all times. Do not plant trees in the easement area.
- Do not change the ground level by more than six inches or change drainage patterns.
- Holes for shrubs, fences and gates, and irrigation lines cannot be deeper than 2 feet. Call 811 before you dig.
- Fences must have a gate that allows access. Please coordinate new fences with TVWD.
- Each easement is unique, please contact TVWD for a copy of your easement and its specific guidelines or restrictions.
Access to the easement
Occasionally, TVWD needs access to the easement area for system inspections, testing, and utility locating. We will try and give at least 72 hours notice before accessing the easement area, but due to a variety of circumstances, advance notice may not be possible.
If you see suspicious activity or people tampering with WWSS property, call TVWD right away at 503-848-3000. Never confront people involved in suspicious activities.
Thank you for your help!
TVWD manages the WWSS. We appreciate your cooperation in preserving the integrity of the easement by not altering or interfering with any signs, equipment, or infrastructure owned by TVWD or WWSS. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at (503) 848-3000 or webmaster [at] tvwd.org (webmaster[at]tvwd[dot]org).
