Hydrant Permits

Green Top Hydrant

Hydrant permits are for vehicles with tanks to access water from specific hydrants throughout TVWD's service area. Applicants should email the following information to HydrantPermits@TVWD.org :  Company name & address, contact person's name and contact information, expected areas/addresses work may be taking place.

District staff will contact the applicant for pre-approval, provide payment details, and schedule inspection. A map of hydrants for bulk water usage will be provided with the final permit. These hydrants, identified by green caps, have undergone hydraulic analysis and have been approved by TVWD for permitted bulk water access.

TVWD requires all vehicles accessing hydrants to be equipped with an approved air gap that is inspected by TVWD's water quality staff at the time of application.  The air gap is measured from the lowest point of the fill pipe to the highest point of the spill rim of the water tank.  The air gap distance must be at least twice the diameter of the fill pipe. Applicants must also have a Chapman Valve (gate valve), hydrant wrench, proper hoses, and undergo a basic training session on proper hydrant operation to meet final approval.

Permit duration is for a 12-month period only.  Bulk water may be accessed only from green cap hydrants within TVWD's service area.  Water usage does not need to be reported.

Any violation of the permit may be subject to fines and immediate revocation.
