Florence Street Main Replacement

Project Type:
Waterline replacement
Project Status:
Construction to Start
Location:
Project Site
SW Florence Street SW Stoddard Drive

What is TVWD doing?

Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD) will replace approximately 350 feet of underground aging 6-inch water main serving customers on SW Florence Street, west of SW Stoddard Drive, with an 8-inch water main.

Water mains are underground pipes responsible for delivering clean, high-quality drinking water to your property and neighborhood. Upgrading the water main serving SW Florence Street offers significant benefits, including improved water quality, enhanced reliability, and greater fire protection coverage.

When complete, this nearly $150,000 investment will strengthen the water system serving this area.

A map of the project area is below.

Construction Information

TVWD is currently looking at constructing this project either in the summer of 2024 or summer 2025. The project will be scheduled for a two-week period that accommodates two primary factors:

  • Avoids disrupting activities at Butternut Creek Elementary School.
  • Coincides with favorable weather conditions, allowing the asphalt material sufficient time to cure and bond to the road surface.

When a start date has been confirmed, TVWD will provide customers near the project area and the Butternut Creek Elementary School with further details on the construction schedule and what to expect during the process.

Initially, in summer 2024, TVWD had planned to replace the 8-inch underground water main serving properties on SW Stoddard Drive, from SW 209th Avenue to SW Kinnaman Road. But after a recent evaluation, it was determined that the water main doesn't require replacement as it is in good condition and can continue to operate safely and reliably. However, the assessment did show the need to replace the aging 6-inch water main serving properties on SW Florence Street, west of SW Stoddard Drive.

How can I stay informed?

What Is the Timeline?
  • Project design: May - September 2023
  • Project construction: TVWD is currently looking at constructing this project in the summer of 2024 or summer 2025.

Timelines are subject to change.

Why now?

The existing water main serving properties on SW Florence Street - west of SW Stoddard Drive - is aging. The main is a priority replacement project.

Upgrading this water main helps provide reliable water service into the future, reduces the chance of leaking and broken water mains, and provides greater fire protection coverage.

How does this affect me?

Water Service Disruptions

Once the new water main is installed, individual water services will be connected to the new line. Your water will be temporarily turned off to connect your home to the new main. When the entire project is complete, TVWD will disconnect the original water main from the system. That process requires a service disruption of four to six hours.

Water service disruptions are typically scheduled in the middle of the day when most residents are away from home. It is TVWD's goal to minimize the water service disruption time for customers. You will be notified at least 48 hours in advance when service disruptions are planned.

Working Times

Work will occur Monday through Friday, with working hours set by the project's Washington County permits. Hours will be announced once they are set. Work may periodically occur outside of the approved if approved by Washington County.

Traffic Disruptions

Vehicular and pedestrian access within the project area will be limited during construction.

General Construction Disruptions

During construction, heavy equipment and materials will be located in the work area. These areas will be clearly marked with cones and/or caution tape. When construction is occurring, noise and dust may be present.
