Norwalk Drive Main Replacement

TVWD recently completed a replacement of the water main along NW Norwalk Drive, between NW Joscelyn Street and NW 166th Avenue. This project was identified as a priority for water main replacement in an effort to improve the reliability of the water system. Customers who have questions about the project can contact Customer Service at 503-848-3000.

What did TVWD do?

TVWD installed a new water main. The project included installation of the water main, installation of valves, and reconnection of all water services and side street connections served from the main on NW Norwalk between NW Joscelyn and NW 166th Avenue.

Why now?

Upgrading water mains helps to provide reliable water service into the future, reduces the chance for leaking and broken water mains, and provides greater fire protection coverage.

The previous water main was deteriorated and identified as a high priority main replacement.

How did this affect me?

  • Depending on your property type and use, this project will affect you in different ways and times:

Working Times

  • Washington County requires that work occurs between the hours set in the permit. Typically, hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Work may periodically occur outside of these times if approved by the County. The times will be communicated when the permit is issued.

Traffic Disruptions

  • During construction, vehicular and pedestrian access within the project area will be limited at times. TVWD will maintain access to private driveways throughout the project. Temporary driveway access may be provided by placing steel plates over the exposed work areas while that section of pipe is being installed and connected, which is typically one (1) day.
  • This project included times when the intersection on 166th Avenue and/or the intersection on NW Joscelyn Street was impacted.

General Construction Disruptions

  • During construction, heavy equipment and materials will need to be located in the work area. These areas will be clearly marked with cones and/or caution tape.
  • When construction is occurring noise and dust may be present.

Water Service Disruptions

  • Once the new water main was installed, your water service was connected to the new line. Your water was turned off temporarily for about 15 to 30 minutes to connect your house system to the new main.
  • When the entire project was complete, Tualatin Valley Water disconnected the original water main and that process necessitated a service disruption impacting the neighborhood that typically takes four hours.

Water service disruptions are typically scheduled in the middle of the day when most residents are at work. It is TVWD's goal to minimize the water service disruption time for all users. You will be notified within at least 48 hours by door hanger as service connections and water disruptions get closer.
