Damascus Main Replacement

In an effort to improve the reliability of the water system, Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD) plans to replace the water main along NW Damascus Street. Construction is estimated to begin this winter and is expected to take up to three weeks to complete.

What is TVWD doing?NW Damascus

TVWD will install a new section of water main and an additional fire hydrant. The project includes installation of approximately 760 feet of new water main, necessary valves, and reconnection of all water services and side street connections within the project boundary on NW Damascus Street.

Why now?

The existing water main is deteriorating and is identified as a high priority main replacement. Water main breaks result in boil water notices, which are a large inconvenience to customers. Any future breaks that result in complete loss of pressure will require boil water notices.

Upgrading this water main helps provide reliable water service into the future, reduces the chance of leaking and broken water mains, and provides greater fire protection coverage. The proposed replacement includes a section of eight inch main up to the new fire hydrant and a three inch main beyond.

How does this affect me?

Depending on your property type and use, this project will affect you in different ways and times:

Working Times

Work will occur between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Work may periodically occur outside of these times if approved by Washington County.

Traffic Disruptions

Vehicular and pedestrian access within the project area will be limited at times during construction. TVWD will work to maintain access to private driveways throughout the project. Temporary driveway access may be provided by placing steel plates over the exposed work areas while that section is being installed and connected, which is typically one day.

This project will include times when the intersections on NW Damascus Street will be impacted.

General Construction Disruptions

During construction, heavy equipment and materials will be located in the work area. These areas will be clearly marked with cones and/or caution tape. When construction is occurring noise and dust may be present.

Water Service Disruptions

Once the new water main is installed, your water service will be connected to the new line. Your water will be temporarily turned off for 15 to 30 minutes to connect your house to the new main. When the entire project is complete, TVWD will disconnect the original water main. That process requires a service disruption impacting the neighborhood lasting approximately four hours.

Water service disruptions are typically scheduled in the middle of the day when most residents are at work. It is TVWD's goal to minimize the water service disruption time for all users. You will be notified by door hanger at least 48 hours in advance of when these service disruptions are planned.

Special Needs

If you or a resident of your home has unique needs, such as medical condition requiring access to fire/ambulance service, please contact us so accommodations can be worked out in advance.

What Is the Timeline?

Construction is scheduled to begin in Winter 2018, after easements have been granted by remaining property owners. The construction process is expected to take approximately three weeks.
