Chromium Testing of TVWD’s Water Supplies

TVWD's water sources are regularly tested for a wide variety of regulated and unregulated contaminants. This testing includes total chromium, which consists of trivalent chromium (chromium III) and hexavalent chromium (chromium VI).  Sampling results for both water supplies have always been well below the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) maximum contaminant level for drinking water.  Please take a look at our Water Quality Summary (PDF) for testing results for total chromium, as well as many other contaminants regularly monitored.

In addition to monitoring the quality of your drinking water, TVWD staff track developments as they relate to current and proposed water quality regulations and issues. The Safe Drinking Water Act, which was established to protect the quality of drinking water, requires a rigorous scientific approach for evaluating contaminants for regulation. The EPA is currently looking at new health effects data on chromium VI. The process should be completed in late 2011, and results will affect future regulatory actions and determine if more protective standards will provide meaningful risk reduction.

TVWD takes pride in providing our customers with quality water and customer service. For more information, contact our Water Quality Department or take a look at our Water Supplies Web page or Water Quality Web page.
